In earlier days, the process of making a guitar was left to a matter of fate... However, at Clayton, we decided to ensure that the that quality of our guitars remained extremely consistent and we identified the point in the manufacturing process that makes the most impact on the sound.... the selection of the tops and backs and instituted a new process that makes the selection based on tone rather than which piece of wood is the next on the stack.

At Clayton, Guitar Building is an Art, Science and Tradition. Our designers start with a clear idea of how an instrument should sound, & work methodically backwards from there. Our guitars are built from carefully chosen quality timber, and use a mix of natural and kiln seasoning over at least 5 to 6 years before the wood is used in the making of the guitar. Materials and components are selected for what they can contribute to the tone and character of a guitar, rather than the guitar should sound in a particular way simply because of the parts that have been used.

Clayton guitars are painstakingly hand-crafted by master luthiers and finished in a state-of-the-art facility , which make our guitars stand out in both tone and look.

Our design team features some of the industry’s most talented craftsmen, engineers, product specialists and musicians who oversee their creations from concept right through to the factory floor. It is the talent, knowledge and commitment of our team that allows us to deliver on our philosophy – to offer musicians everywhere the highest quality instruments at very affordable prices.

If the sound isn’t smooth enough, could do with more bite or is in need of some killer sustain, our technicians and engineers will put in the extra time to fine-tune a design until it is hitting all the right notes.
